  • The Inner World of Abraham Lincoln victim of domestic vilence

    • Dated: 13-05-2010

    Kolkata

Domestic violence is a bane on society. Often this problem is acute among the poor where poverty and squalor drives men to drink, consume drugs and beat their wives.

No doubt grass root women’s movement, especially in the North –East are against Alcohol and drugs.

However feminist have been using the problem of Domestic Violence to advance their goals, which are overtly and covertly against men and family.

A law on domestic violence was passed at the behest of Mrs Sonia Gandhi to address the problem. However the law is totally biased towards women and offers no protection to men.

However a little research will show that men are as much victims of domestic violence as are women.

According to Michael Burlingame, a history professor at

ConnecticutCollegeand the author of "The Inner World of Abraham Lincoln", Mary Todd used to beat Abraham Lincoln regularly.

    Apparently, one time,

Lincolndidn't put enough wood on a fire, so Mary Todd hit him with a log. Another time, Lincolndidn't buy the right kind of meat for breakfast, so Mary Todd smacked him in the face and drew blood.

In the biography of Hillary Rodham
Clintoncalled "Hillary's Choice", Hillary is alleged to have routinely beat Bill Clinton, including one time after the Monica Lewinsky scandal broke out.  In a stranger, earlier incident, in 1993, Hillary scratched Bill's face with her nails and left marks on his chin.

According to reports in 2004, his second wife of Stephen Hawking, Elaine, was abusive towards him, which even led to him being hospitalised with a broken wrist and cuts on his face.

John Wayne Bobbitt and Lorena Leonor were an American couple, , whose difficult relationship gained worldwide notice for an incident in 1993 when Lorena severed John's penis with a knife. The penis was subsequently surgically re-attached.

There have been plently opf famous and not so famous men, who were victims of domestic violance.

Yet we ignore the male victims and treat every female victim as being in the grip of a sadistic abuser.

Men are also subjected to verbal abuse, denied a peaceful atmosphere at home. Often they feel that it is better to stay outside or in their offices.

Often Men have to be mute witness to the fact that their wives abuse their parents and siblings.

Men are time and again denied food, company and sex and are subjected to numerous other forms of abuse.

They cant cry and they are in double jeopardy since their wives can not only inflict cruelty on them but can also get them along with their elderly parents behind bars using IPC 498A or the Domestic Violence act.

Men often find it better to bear all cruelty and humiliation than to face our draconian criminal system and long drawn litigation that can drive him to penury.

Therefore I will make a fervent appeal to our parliamentarians to make laws on domestic violence Gender Neutral. I will also call for prohibition on use of alcohol.

It was a case the village Panchayat had never handled.

For the last few days Mohammedpur Kadim village under Modi Nagar in Ghaziabad was witnessing a bitter argument in a family over dowry. But in this case it wasn’t the groom’s family that was making the demands.

Newly married Poonam Kumar (22) was pressurising and demanding dowry from her parents, who had reportedly promised her the same earlier.

Village head Dhan Pal Singh told HT that Poonam came to her parents’ house on Monday and had an altercation with them. She started demanding the dowry they had promised her earlier.

Poonam also reportedly tried to lodge a complaint with the police but nothing happened. “She kept on pressurising her father Vijay Pal and family members that she would go back to her husband’s house only after she gets dowry. The altercations continued for over two days,” the village head said.

On Tuesday the village Panchayat had to step in. The Panchayat called the woman's in-laws and parents. The proceedings of the Panchayat went on for hours. The woman's in-laws apologised for the behaviour of their daughter-in-law and said they never demanded any dowry.

After a lot of deliberations and on constant requests by her parents that they do not have sufficient funds for fulfil her demands, the in-laws stepped in. “We are self-sufficient and would not allow you to take anything from your parents,” the village head quoted in-laws.

The woman finally consented and decided to leave for her husband’s house without taking any dowry from her parents.

  • One married man commits suicide every 9 min

    Monday, 22 February 2010 07:47

New Delhi: Family problems, illness, love affairs, bankruptcy identified as top causes

Is the mounting burden of responsibilities driving men to the end of their tether? Numbers suggest so.

In India, one married man commits suicide every nine minutes. Of the total 1,25,017 cases of suicide in 2008, married men alone accounted for 57,639. While the number of women taking the extreme step did not lag far behind, men appeared more vulnerable to mounting social and economic pressures. In the case of women, the trigger was more emotional and personal.

    Stats

The overall male-female ratio of suicide victims for the year 2008 was 64:36, according to the latest data of the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB). The general scene is much grimmer. Suicides in 2008 registered a decadal growth of 19.4% compared to 1998, the figures say. They also reveal a year-on-year rise of 1.9% compared to the 2007 numbers —1,22,637.

The overall increase in cases involving women was 355 in two years while it was 2,187 among men. The increase in suicide among men is six times more than that of women. "Every nine minutes a married man is committing suicide in India. Are we ignoring our men too much or burdening them with too many responsibilities?" said Virag Dhulia of the Save Family Foundation, an organisation fighting for harassed husbands.

The data, however, may not be revealing the full picture. The number of girls/women attempting suicide is much higher than that of boys/men. But the suicide rate is higher among the latter, says clinical psychologist and family therapist, Dr Shelja Sen.

"The intensity of depression among women or adolescent girls is different from boys and men. Attempting to commit suicide often provides relief from depression among females, it doesn't happen the same way with men. So when they attempt suicide, it is more serious and harsh, and results in death," she says.

    Stats

The NCRB data showed youngsters were more susceptible to suicides. Youths in the age group 15-29 years (35.7%) and lower middle-aged people in 30-44 age group (34.8%) were the prime groups taking the extreme step.

Family problems (23.8%) and illness (21.9%) were found to be the major causes of suicides besides love affairs (3.0%), bankruptcy, dowry dispute and poverty (2.4% each) being other reasons. In fact, suicides due to illness, drug abuse/addiction and poverty have shown an increasing trend.

Family problems, failure in examination and illness were driving children to the brink. There were 2,381 cases in this category. Family problems have also driven 10,027 youths (15-29 years), 11,363 lower middle-aged people (30-44 years) and 6,143 upper middle-aged persons (45-59 years) to commit suicide. Suicides among senior citizens were mainly due to illness.

The proportion of female victims was comparatively more under the heads dowry dispute (98.1%), illegitimate pregnancy (91.6%), physical abuse (rape, incest, etc) (72.8%), barrenness/impotency (not having children) (65.5%), divorce (62.2%), cancellation/non-settlement of marriage (53.5%) and suspected/illicit relation (50.8%).

Housewives (24,367) accounted for 54.8% of female victims and nearly 19.5% of victims committing suicides. It was observed that 70.3% of the suicide victims in both categories were married.

Among bigger cities, the four metros — Bengaluru (2,396), Chennai (1,309), Mumbai (1,111) and Delhi (1,107) — reported higher number of suicides. In fact, these four cities put together accounted for almost 45% of the total suicides reported from 35 cities, even though cases in Mumbai had declined marginally.

  • The 3rd National Convention on Judicial Accountability & Reforms, on 6th
and 7th February held at NehruMemorialMuseumand Library

     Dear Friends,

The 3rd National Convention on Judicial Accountability & Reforms, on 6th
      and 7th February held at

    Nehru Memorial Museum

    and Library, Teen Murti
      House,

    New Delhi

    was a good success.

We must all thank Mr Prashant Bhusan, the Convenor of the Campaign to take
up this important issue and inviting all of us to put in our views.

It was attended by stalwarts like Shanti Bhushan, Arun Jaitley, A B
Bardhan, Retd Chief CJI Verma, Arvind Kejriwal, S C Agarwal, Commdr Lokesh
Batra, Madhu Kishwar, Tulsi amongst numerous others. Small captions with
photos and description of everyone, including our members, would be posted
      soon.

Almost everybody agreed, cutting across political lines, that the Judiciary
has decayed, is horribly corrupt and needs immediate reforms both in terms
of their appointment and removal. A detailed resolution was drawn up after
the 2 days meet and can be found at http://www.judicialreforms.org/

The real good part of the seminar is that we found that almost all of the
attendees coming from different parts of

    India

, have heard the name of Save
Indian Family Movement. In fact Madhu Kishwar ji described our movement to
the forum, as a phenomenal success within a short period of time.

Mr Prashant Bhushan the Convenor of the Campaign was rather getting afraid
that the campaign for Judicial Accountability would automatically get
transformed into Family/Mens Rights Movement by the Save Indian Family
Movement (SIF) members, which even we don't want. And it would be hurricarri
for the Convenors of the Campaign to keep anything in the resolution like
Family/Mens Rights issue, which would make it a politically incorrect one
      for them too.

However, we the members of SIF, whether anybody likes it or not, are
incidentally or accidentally, the biggest stakeholders of this Judicial
Accounatability Campaign. And no points for guessing why it is so. Yes, it
is due to the sheer volume and massive misuse of 498a, with more than 70000
false cases being filed every year. Some of the stalwarts in the Seminar,
even from outside SIF, described it aptly as the "Felt Need".

We all know that on 7th of November, 2009, Moily our Law Minister presented
the report on National Mission for Delivery of Justice and Legal Reforms
identifying the types of cases which are actually clogging up the Judicial
system. Matrimonial Cases and False 498a cases were ranked obviously 1st and
2nd in the list. And in any democracy/movement, it is the group with the
highest numbers, which matters. So it is quite obvious with SIF members
would come from such far flung places such as

    Hyderabad

    , Channai and

    Bangalore

, spending money from their own pockets just to attend the seminar
on Judicial Accountability, as that is the only obvious thing, which would
make sense. And yes, we are the groups which are affected the most by the
Judiciary. And our numbers of people fighting cases in the Court are much
more than the Tribals of Chattisgarh, who are also facing apathy from the
      very same Judiciary.

Now how to take forward the Campaign for Judicial Accountability & Reform.

We obviously have our own agenda. And so do the members of the Campaign
have. However we do have a common enemy, the Judiciary. So we can join hands
on issues of common interest and conduct Press Conferences on Judicial
      Accountability, throughout

    India

. We have already established some good
contacts with some stalwarts during the Seminar. And yes, we now have
chapters in almost all the State Capitals, and do have strength and friends
in the Media to conduct successful Press conferences on the Judicial
Accountability issue. Mr Prashant Bhusan has agreed to join such Press
Conferences which has a common agenda on Judicial Accountability & Reform.

I would request our other members to chip in their valuable comments and
      views on the seminar.

  • Do we want such thing in India?

It may be helpful to consider the dangers posed by raising wave of feminism in this country.

The feminist leaders are anti-God, anti-capitalism, anti-family, anti-birth, anti-heterosexual and foster a virulent hatred of anything having to do with males.

The preeminent purpose for some women have become their careers, and they decided against the value of home and family.

The Impact of Feminnism and womens’ liberation movement  in west has been that:-

    Women were liberated from :-

    ·  the home,

    ·  from their husbands,

    ·  from their children –

    ·  from having to bear children at all.

Fathers were liberated from their authority.

Children were liberated from limits, from rules, even their parents.

And the entire population was liberated from moral and ethical standards.

Yet it turns out that those things were precisely what held society together.

"Family values" have been so scorned that the west is left with neither families nor values.

What do they have? Rampant illegitimacy and sexual disease, widespread divorce, and a generation of unloved, undisciplined, and uncared-for kids.

  • Women are more violent, says study

    08-06-2010, kolkata

The Independent, UK By Sophie Goodchild, Home Affairs Correspondent Sunday, 12 November 2000

Bruised and battered husbands have been complaining for years and now the biggest research project of its kind has proved them right. When it comes to domestic confrontation, women are more violent than men.
The study, which challenges the long-standing view that women are overwhelmingly the victims of aggression, is based on an analysis of 34,000 men and women by a British academic. Women lash out more frequently than their husbands or boyfriends, concludes John Archer, professor of psychology at the

    University of Central Lancashire

and president of the International Society for Research on Aggression.
Male violence remains a more serious phenomenon: men proved more likely than women to injure their partners. Female aggression tends to involve pushing, slapping and hurling objects.* Yet men made up nearly 40 per cent of the victims in the cases that he studied - a figure much higher than previously reported.

Professor Archer analysed data from 82 US and

    UK

studies on relationship violence, dating back to 1972. He also looked at 17 studies based on victim reports from 1,140 men and women. Speaking last night, he said that female aggression was greater in westernised women because they were "economically emancipated" and therefore not afraid of ending a relationship.

"Feminist writers say most of the acts against men are not important but the same people have used the same surveys to inflate the number of women who are attacked," he said. "In the past it would not even have been considered that women are violent. My view is that you must base social policy on the whole evidence."
His views are supported by Dr Malcolm George, a lecturer in neuroscience at

    London University

. In a paper to be published next year in the Journal of Men's Studies, Dr George will argue that men have been abused by their wives since Elizabethan times. He uses examples such as the actor John Wayne, beaten by his wife Conchita Martinez, and Humphrey Bogart battered by his wife Mayo Methot, as well as Abraham Lincoln whose wife Mary who broke his nose with a lump of wood.

His research is backed up by historical records which show that men who were beaten by their wives were publicly humiliated in a ceremony called a "skimmington procession". The procession was named after the ladle used to skim milk during cheese making.

Dr George has also unearthed a plaster frieze in Montacute House in

    Somerset

that depicts a wife hitting her husband over the head followed by a "skimmington" ceremony.

"It's a complex argument but we do get more women aggressing against male partners than men against female partners," said Dr George. "The view is that women are acting in self-defence but that is not true - 50 per cent of those who initiate aggression are women. This sends a dangerous message to men because we are saying they are not going to get any legal redress so their option instead is to hit back."
Terrie Moffitt, professor of social behaviour at the

    Institute of Psychiatry

    at King's College,

    London

, admitted that women do engage in abusive behaviour and said the Home Office should fund research into the issue in the

    UK

. "If we ask does women's violence have consequences for their kids then the answer is 'yes'," she said. "There is also an elevated risk of children being victims of domestic violence if there is central violence between parents."

However, Dr Anne Campbell, a psychologist at the

University of Durham, said that women should still receive the most support because they were the greater victims of domestic violence. "The outcome of violence is that women are more damaged by it and need the bulk of resources," she said. "But women's violence has become increasingly legitimised. There is a sense now that it's OK to 'slap the bastard'."

  • Dowry is a problem in India and it should be eradicated.

    08-06-2010

In the days of yore small gifts like bicycle or a radio were enough, but today dowry constitute huge sums of money and an array of consumer goods.

Whereas the role of dowry seekers is highlighted, the role of dowry givers is often overlooked conveniently.

Dowry is paid by greedy parents of the bride as an enticement so that a groom who is wealthy, earning a handsome amount, holding a powerful post or settled abroad can be secured for their daughter. This will enable the bride to live a life of comfort and also get all the advantages offered by the social position of the groom.

The irony is that if the marriage works, then this is regarded as a gift given out of love (and no further discussion regarding this matter is entertained by the bride’s family). If the marriage fails, then it is treated as dowry.

Parents of prospective brides judge a man by his money rather than his character, moral upbringing etc. Since the groom is treated as another consumer good that can be purchased for one’s daughter, the families of brides have no moral standing to complain about dowry. It is just another malaise of a hedonist society.

In certain states often the groom is coerced to pay heavy amounts to the family of the bride, even at the cost of his own parents and siblings. The bride’s family often lives comfortably at the expense of the groom. This should also be looked as dowry harassment of the groom by the bride’s family.

Whereas the law provides for punishment of both dowry seekers and givers, feminist especially those at the helm of the National Woman’s Commission would like to reduce the punishment to dowry givers. Heavy penalty is imposed on dowry seekers but dowry givers are left scot-free.

In an egalitarian society all laws should be gender neutral including dowry laws. The problem of dowry stems from the current wind of consumerism and materialism that is sweeping our society and hence can only be treated through moral upliftment of society.

Draconian laws are only used by feminist to further their anti-male, anti-family, anti-God  agenda.
